Today Hon and I got our brand new Seba Skates. However we both choose to leave our inlines behind at the roller disco that evening. Our reason is that you feel more a part of the whole 70's roller disco vibe in quads. I've only used quads twice before and felt that I should give it more of a chance to understand why people are so passionate about them.
For me that day I managed to do two new tricks on quad skates. - Toe and heel wheeling. - Toe Toe wheeling. The fat chunky wheels acted like stabilisers when compared the narrow single wheel of the inline skates when doing this trick. Doing this multiple times that evening gave me the confidence to do it later on my inlines. So for that I can't ever knock the quads, they had its place in helping me learn two tricks.

I talk about skating a lot and I finally convinced my friend Hon into starting after he really enjoyed our session at The Renaissance Rooms roller disco, in Vauxhall last year. A London street skaters' first port of call is Club Blue Room in Marble Arch, we went there to have a look at their skate range. The salesman who is also a skater was really helpful. He was explaining about the pair of skate that Hon was looking at is also a really good entry skate for slaloming. I think Hon was still a little unsure so he decided to rent a pair of skates that day, just to be sure before he parted with his hard earned cash. The rental skates are basic but safety pads are included with the rental fee.
I said to Hon that if he wanted to learn I'd be more than happy to help him out and be happy to go with him to the parks. The thing is if I was going to spend a lot of time in the park I thought I should also use the time to improve my own skating. Whilst I was only in the shop with Hon for moral support, something stuck with me. So in the park Hon seemed to be taking to the skating with relative ease, I was having a play with some forward and backwards crosses, also a bit of forward snaking. We both had a good afternoon in Hyde Park on the skates but we're both not really impulse buyers. After a week of researching reviews we were back in the skate shop. (30th April). Out we came with brand new Seba skates. This is the start of something new... |
